Renovation of a Secure Historic Facility
Description
Awarded by US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Fort Worth District, this project included the construction of an 11,500-square-foot Secure Compartmented Information Facility in an existing historic building to U.S. Department of Defense standards as well as reconfiguration of an administrative area. Project included selective demolition; cast-in place concrete; interior work to include insulation, gypsum board, wall framing, acoustical ceilings, carpet tile, wood doors, FRP reinforcement, and paint.
Scope also included the integration of new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems. New electrical infrastructure was installed to include a new 2000A service fed from a city transformer through the crawlspace of the building into the south basement, a new backup generator, and a UPS to serve the renovated area. Existing sidewalks were replaced where sidewalk had to be removed for electrical infrastructure as well as a new underground feed from the new backup generator. New heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment was set in place on the first-floor roof between two areas of the two-story building, with a crane. This system fed the renovated area and was installed without interruption of existing service to the rest of the building. The fire suppression system was also upgraded to serve the new secure area.
